Have we grown so desperate that we can now do anything on earth to get traffic to our websites? It might have not come to that in your case but the sad truth is that there are people who do not mind the extent to which they go as long as they see traffic going to their websites. What such people have not understood is that what counts is not only the number of people that make it to your website but the number of people that do something that will benefit you once they get there.
So, while you make efforts to get traffic to your website or blog, keep in mind these facts that will help you a great deal.
1. Never promise what you cannot deliver
This applies mostly when using article marketing to increase traffic to your website. The title and the introductory paragraph are very important parts of an article. They tell the readers what to expect from the rest of the article body. While writing the title and the first paragraph, do not promise your readership what you cannot deliver within the article. Otherwise, you will lose credibility and no one will click on the link you provide.

2. Do not exchange links with just any website
Link building is one of the best methods to get traffic to your website. You should however be careful what websites you associate with. Linking with websites that have been banned by search engines would cause the search engines and users to think that your website is also as corrupt as the others. That would cause your website to also be penalized and you could watch traffic to your website drop drastically.
3. Do not create web content for machines
The main reason why you develop your web content should always be to help and benefit the readers that will use it. For this reason, while you optimize your website such that you have a high page rank in search engines, you should not compromise the quality that readers would get from the content. That would make the readers spend more time on your website increasing the likelihood that they will make a purchase. Don’t just get traffic, get valuable traffic.
4. Do not change your domain name

Unless it is absolutely necessary, do not change the domain name of your website even if the content is to remain the same. Websites that have domain names that have been registered and active for long are considered by search engines to be more credible and therefore are awarded high ranking. High search engine ranking is crucial if you want to get high volumes of web traffic to your website.
5. Do not waste time with less effective traffic generation tactics
Not every web traffic generation tactic is worth your efforts. Let us take a good example; you could generate traffic from Yahoo Answers by answering questions relevant to your website content then giving your website as the reference website. However, this method will only bring you negligible web traffic. Instead of using your time, therefore, in such a method, why not invest that time in developing strategies that would help you get traffic in better volumes?
