Optimizing web pages has become very important for increasing a site ranking.
Optimization involves both on and off page phases. The one page optimization deals with the selected keywords to write the web page. The off page optimization involves building links of one website to another website. Search engines have algorithms based on many elements to assess the worthiness of site or a web page. There are two types of links.
1. Navigational links
2. Hypertext links
The navigation links helps in connecting the pages that are within the site. The hypertext links offer footnotes, materials and more information that are in connection with the main page. These types of links are sometimes very problematic if they are not used in correct manner.
Links can be a problem when they distract the viewers and not allowing them to continue to read a page fully. Thus, there won’t be an easy flow of reading of the content and visitors will be forced to jump from one page to another. Web visitors will not be able to understand the summary of the web page or the main message of the page.
The main purpose of having links is to help conveying the author’s message to the visitors with more references and content. The links should be directing visitors to other web pages of the same site. These connected links should lead to videos or images related to the main content.
Visitors should clearly know when they navigate from one page to another page through links. A simple link usually works with a single window, in which the original content disappears and the linked page replaces the original page.
This link can be avoided by using the keyword target="main" in the main page. Hence by this, the new page will be opened in a new page and viewers will not lose the original content and the original site. The secondary method is by using the frames which could help in maintaining the original content.
Usability:
Now let us discuss how links are in relation with usability. Usability is the term used in which the end user gets the information and the content with reasonable amount of comfort. For the website designer and developer, usability is termed as the web page in which the design and other content related pages are designed so that everyone can use it easily.
The source anchor and the destination anchor forms the two ends of the links. Generally, the source link is called a link, whereas the destination link is called a link target.
The most common link is the URL. URL is the acronym of Uniform Resource Locator. Hyperlinks are the ones that are displayed with different colour in the web page so that it is distinguished from other links.
Having the right link in the right place makes will help the overall visibility of your website, its
ranking and financial rewards.
